In PORTAFO I am attempting to rediscover how a piece of furniture is put together. I take the components apart and leave the outer layer ! the skin of the piece separate from its support – so that it can regain (recover) its own meaning (covering, upholstering). In turn, the support engages with a previous life and retrieves its autonomy. It becomes an independent entity, which, in PORTAFO, can be encased in a variety of ways.
