The name of the mysterious DINNER JACKET, a mobile work not all of whose aspects can be appreciated at once and which derives its stability from unstable elements, is likely to have been inspired by the shape of its four dark, vertical panels with their surprising ‘tailoring’, which holds together and distinguishes the cabinet as a whole. The system, and playing with systems, is the essence of all of Verroken’s works, but in this instance it reaches a pinnacle. As a result of both its literal as well as figurative mobility, an image is created that is as defined as it is elusive – one that distances itself from any definition. In fact, it involves many images simultaneously, which neither follow sequentially nor exist side-by-side, but which live within and through each other.
